There's something so special about a wedding that pulls together the places and people you love most into one perfectly imperfect, joy-filled day. Alston and Nayan's wedding at Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum was exactly that. A gorgeous blend of Southern charm and rich Indian tradition, all wrapped up in the most stunning garden setting Savannah has to offer. I still find myself thinking about this day, and I am so excited to be sharing it with you today.

The Rehearsal Dinner at The Oglethorpe Club

Every good wedding weekend starts with a great rehearsal dinner, and Alston and Nayan's Friday night at The Oglethorpe Club set the tone perfectly. There's a warmth to these evenings that I don't think gets talked about enough. The toasts are a little looser, the laughter comes a little easier, and you get to see both families genuinely come together, mingle (some for the first time), and really get comfortable with all of the festivities that lie ahead.

Honestly, rehearsal dinners are one of my favorite things to photograph. They're intimate in a way the wedding day sometimes isn't. You get quiet, unscripted moments like your father getting choked up mid-toast, siblings cracking inside jokes, two families becoming one over good food and better company. Documenting that night at The Oglethorpe Club was such a gift, and it made the anticipation for the wedding day even sweeter.

The Morning Of: Getting Ready & First Looks

That beautiful wedding morning is when Alston got ready at an off-site house with her girls, the energy buzzing as she slipped into her breathtaking gown from Sajda. Her glam was done by Leyla and Kiah of Bride's Side Beauty, giving her that natural, lit-from-within glow that photographs so beautifully. She also had traditional Indian henna applied by the incredibly talented Nikki Karimi. Watching that intricate artwork come together on her hands was mesmerizing, and it added such a meaningful, personal layer to her bridal prep. To show off her gorgeous bridal look, Alston opted for a first look moment between her and her dad as well as her girls. Two moments that will forever be ingrained in her mind.

Meanwhile, across town, Nayan was getting ready at Hotel Bardo before making his way to Ships of the Sea. Before making their way to the ceremony, Alston and Nayan had a quick first look in one of the most charming squares in the Historic District. It was the sweetest moment, straight out of a movie and a perfect segue to some beautiful pre-ceremony Downtown Savannah portraits. One thing Downtown Savannah does not disappoint in is the beautiful architecture and design. This city offers cobblestone streets, moss-draped oaks, and a certain energy that really can’t be replicated anywhere else in the world.

The Venue: Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum

If you haven't been to Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum, you're missing out on one of Savannah's most romantic hidden gems. Tucked behind historic gates, the museum's lush garden courtyard feels like its own world. String lights woven through century-old trees, greenery spilling in every direction, and just enough historic architecture to keep things elegant without feeling stuffy. It's the kind of venue that gives a couple room to make it entirely their own, which is exactly what Alston and Nayan did. The garden vibes here were actually a huge source of inspiration for their floral design, and once you see the photos, you'll understand why.

Alston and Nayan’s Indian Fusion Wedding at Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum

The ceremony space was bright, warm, and layered with color, thanks to the immaculate floral design from Madeline Read Floral. Greens, peach, pink, apricot, orange, and gold came together in a palette that felt both garden-fresh and festive. The design by Curated Events, the florals by Madeline, and the color palette all played a gorgeous nod to the Nayans’ Indian heritage layered over that Ships of the Sea garden backdrop.

Alston and Nayan wove Hindu rites into their ceremony, including the exchange of garlands and the saptapadi, the sacred seven steps taken together that represent the couple's shared vows and journey ahead. As a photographer, getting to document these traditions is one of the most meaningful parts of my job. There's so much symbolism, so much history, and so much love packed into every ritual, and being trusted to capture it authentically is something I never take for granted.

Cocktail Hour, Reception, and Dancing the Night Away

Their black-tie or indian attire dress code led to cocktail hour being an absolute feast for the eyes. Saris and sherwanis mingling effortlessly with tuxedos and cocktail dresses, all set against that same lush garden backdrop. Oh, and just when we thought Alston couldn't look more stunning, she surprised everyone by changing into a second gown by Aisha Rao for the reception. It was the perfect way to mark the shift from ceremony to celebration, and getting to capture that reveal was such a fun moment. Alston’s reception look was every bit as showstopping as her first, with its own distinct, glamorous energy.

Throughout the night, it was evident that their reception carried the same warmth and color through every detail, and once the dancing started, it did not stop. Alston performed with her bridesmaids a traditional Indian dance, in a wonderful surprise for Nayan. The night offered so much joy and celebration for Alston and Nayan, and bringing the two families and two cultures together was an incredible sight to see. We ended the night signing off as Alston and Nayan left the reception for their after-party at Alley Cat Lounge for some cocktails and to soak up that post-wedding bliss.

A Perfectly Blended Celebration

Alston and Nayan's wedding was such a beautiful representation of who they are. From meeting online to now blending the two cultures, both are two souls who found one another in a beautiful love story.
